Told by Jemma.
Mom: “So you finally decided to come home.”
“Did you not think we would worry about you? Even though you’re a grown adult, you do have a baby here you know!”
“I’m sorry Mom and Dad… I guess I just totally lost track of time.”
“I won’t let it happen again, I promise!”
Dad: “I’m going back to bed. I’ll let you two work this out.”
“So I was out tonight and Tegan was at prom. I’m sure your dad expected you to be home earlier to take care of your child instead of making him do it.”
“I don’t expect him to do it!! I told you I lost track of time!”
“I don’t know what’s going on with you Jemma, but you need to get your shit together.”
“My shit is together. I’m fine!”
“You don’t look fine.”
“Are you drunk, Jemma?”
To be honest, the last I remember was being at the gym doing my sing-o-grams all night, and there was a juice bar there and a pile of guys, and I ended up flirting with this random blonde lady.
“I guess I could have one more.”
Oh yeah, and I remember talking to Tegan earlier when she was getting ready for prom, about how I was doing a sing-o-gram for Vandeen Jonso.
“Hi Jemma, it’s a pleasure to meet you. You’re kinda famous yourself too, you know.”
Me: “Yeah but, I’ve idolized you since I was a little girl, and you… you never seem to age!”
“Yes it’s true, I don’t. I’ve found the secret to time.”
“Heh heh, seriously. Well, can you turn back time and make it so that I never met my boyfriend Stevan?”
“No. I can’t do that.”
After the chat with Mom I high-tailed it to bed to sleep off the drunk.
It might be lonelier sleeping alone… but I kinda knew what had to be done.
I slept through til noonish as usual. Then the calls started coming for the sing-o-grams. Man, so many people wanting flirt-o-grams and celebration grams and shit. When is anyone gonna celebrate and romanticize me, dammit?
Yeah, I was not having a good night. Fuck this bladder infection. Don’t worry, it wasn’t anything major, it was just…. ahh forget it.
“Hi Stevan. I was close by so I decided to come here instead of home. Can I use your bathroom?”
“Yeah sure, come on in.”
What? The fucker wouldn’t even walk in with me?? Okay, fuck this.
Oh great. It’s Stevan’s hooligan brothers.
“Oh hey Jemma. Are you looking for Stevan again?”
“Excuse me, Todd. Yes, he knows I’m here. I’m just on my way in.”
The other brother: “Urrk..! Yes, let the stinky girl in to use the bathroom.”
Like, what the FUCK?!?!
Stevan was in the downstairs bathroom, so I waited for him. I felt like crying. I AM NOT STINKY!! Why are boys so mean!?
And I did feel kinda stupid in this outfit. But fuck it. I’m stupid anyway, for staying with him this long.
“Hi Stevan. Umm… I’m just gonna head on home. And I don’t think I should come back. At all.”
“What are you saying? Are you… breaking up with me?”
“Maybe? Well, is it yes or is it no?”
“It’s yes, Stevan. I’m tired of chasing you around! And your brothers are idiots!”
“You’re breaking up with me because of my brothers?”
“No, I just want someone who treats me better.”
“Well fine then. Go.”
I felt good. At least I think so.
I’ll have to raise Jovanna without her daddy.
But how does that saying go?
Let it go.
If it comes back to you…
It’s yours forever.
If it doesn’t…
It was never meant to be.
