Told by Jovanna.
Me and Esme were chatting in school the next day, and we decided to go to the burger joint together, after we were done our afterschool activities.
Me: “So, is Cyrus coming?”
“I dunno, was I supposed to ask him?”
“Yeah, I thought he was gonna come and maybe bring a friend for me, or we were gonna try to find me a date so we could double date.”
Me: “Well, why don’t you text him?”
While we were waiting for Cyrus, I saw a familiar blonde head.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you, Grammy.”
“Oh thats okay, seeing it’s you, sweetie. But ya gotta stop calling me Grammy. It makes me feel old. Remember, it’s Mama Shar.”
“Okay Gra— I mean, Mama Shar. That actually sounds silly, ’cause you’re not my Mama.”
My grammy was pretty silly.
After talking with her a bit, I went back to Esme and by that time Cyrus was approaching us. Wow, I really did think he was cute, but I didn’t tell Esme that of course.
“Yiiisss! What’s up, chicks?” Cyrus said with a fist pump. Oooo-kay then.
“Oh hey… Jeremma? Jo… Joanna?”
“Right! I knew that.”
“Awww, look at that cute baby over there!!” Esme said. “I think I know him. I gotta go see… be right back!”
And she was gone, leaving me with this boy again. Great. I didn’t do so well last time, but maybe now I could redeem myself and perhaps have a more successful conversation.
“It’s nice to see you again.”
“You too, Jovanna.”
Wow, he was really, seriously muscular. And sooo tan! I suddenly wanted to touch his arms.
Of course I would never do that.
“So do you like our new school? Like, since moving up to junior high?”
“Yeah, it’s alright. But smartness doesn’t really run in my family. I’d rather be doing something with my hands.” —those oh-so-muscular hands— “Oh, there’s my girlfriend again. You should go tell her to leave those babies alone.”
Yeah, there were a lot of random people with their babies here.
“Hi Esme. I think Cyrus wants to talk to you.” I had kinda forgot that we were supposed to be looking for another guy for me… and not Cyrus.
Esme: “What?! Were you guys talking about me? What’d he say?”
I felt like getting adventurous. I don’t know why.
“Yeah, he needs you to prove his love to him.”
I really wanted to prove my love to him… but unfortunately he was taken.
“What do you mean?” Esme asked.
“If you mean I should go and kiss him… I got a better idea. We are looking for someone for you. So I dare you to go and kiss someone.”
“What, just anyone?”
“Yeah, just go and kiss a random stranger. I dare you.”
“On the lips?”
“Yes, of course on the lips.”
Darn. What was I supposed to do now? I was offered a bonafide dare. To kiss someone… random?! On the lips!!
Well, there’s my grandpa. His cheek I could manage, but not the lips. Ew. That would be seriously weird.
And that guy… he looked like an Indian tribe chief. No thanks.
“There’s no one here our age. But I suppose I could kiss Cyrus. You don’t seem to be interested in kissing him.”
She gasped. “You wouldn’t!”
“You dared me, didn’t you?”
“Hey, where you going, Esme?!”
“Hey again. I’m not sure if Esme still likes you.”
“But she told me to give you this.”
“What the…? Did you just kiss me?!”
“Well duh! Did you like it?”
“What the hell! I don’t even know you! And Esme is my girlfriend!”
“Sorry! She dared me!!!”
“Hmph! I’ll have to talk to her. But you got some serious issues. I’m outta here!”
Hmm. I shoulda kissed that Indian guy.
But it was fun though!
